Episode 99 – Caring About Characters

BC Podcast 99 (Wide)

Jim, Doc, and Chris discuss how and why games are able to make the audience care about fictional characters. For this topic, we examine games from very different genres and time periods that each are capable of evoking strong emotional responses, such as Metal Gear Solid 3, Link’s Awakening, Persona 4, Shadow of the Colossus, Red Dead Redemption, Final Fantasy VII, and others.

Plus, Jim and Chris try, and fail, to justify their fervor for Persona 5 to Doc, and Doc and Jim try, and fail, to sell Chris on riffing and its use in Mystery Science Theater 3000: The Return. Chris gets rekt in the Overwatch Uprising event and Hearthstone: Journey to Un’Goro, and Doc explores the limits of sentient Russian A.I. KOMRAD.
